After fighting with WEBAFRICA for the last 20 days about a line fault. I decided to cancel my account with them and move over to Afrihost. I looked online on user reviews and chose the top ISP on the list. Within 2 days, “Veronique P” helped me with the new account, and the router was delivered. But WEBAFRICA would not release the line. They had constant excuses, questions left unanswered or just left me hanging on their chats for hours on end without a response, or a reply saying… “Hi ********, it seems there hasn't been communication between you and our agent for some time. This chat will now be closed. If you'd still like to speak to an agent, please start a new chat session. The new agent will have a copy of your last conversation.” (they did not, I had to explain every time) I have been with them for well over 10 years. But they lost me when they chose a WhatsApp and online bot to replace an actual person. I could immediately tell they did not have the support staff needed for their client base. I spent over 30 hours on hold (in the last 20 days) …. and maybe 20min of that talking to an actual person. Constant transfers to someone new that has no idea of the last 6 hours I spent explaining what the issue is, and then no answers and being transferred once again. This is what kills the trust between service provider and client. That being said. It is such a relief to have an actual person to talk to, one person, no transfers to someone else being left on hold. After my interactions with WEBAFRICA, I expected days to go by before I would get an answer as I do understand there are 3rd parties involved. But “Vusi G” got me up and running within 2 hours. Considering, most of that was waiting for a response to simple questions he needed answers to from WEBAFRICA I do not know all the ins or outs of what is needed on the backend. But your Online staff and system is fantastic. I get answers when I ask, an explanation when confused and a constant check in to see if I am still there. Do not change this, it is such an important part of human interaction. And as of now, “Vusi G”, and the rest of the team, are smashing it!!!!!!! Please do not change a thing!!!!

    • Clients who sign up for a Wireless package that has a FREE promotional router will be billed R999 should they cancel or change their package in the first 6 months from sign up.
    • Clients with discounted devices who cancel within 6 months of sign up will be billed a R999 cancellation fee.
    • Clients who fall in arrears within 6 months from sign up will be billed a R999 penalty.
  • SIM Only
    • The cancellation fee does NOT apply to SIM Only packages.
    • These packages can be cancelled at any time before the 15th of the month.

Speed and latency.

  • Speeds and latency are dependent on a variety of factors such as number of devices connected and signal strength.
  • Average speeds remain device and coverage dependent.
  • The MTN (Pure Wireless) Network averages up to 10-150Mbps.
  • The Vodacom Wireless Network averages up to 10-150Mbps.
  • Telkom’s Network averages up to 20-40Mbps.

Uncapped thresholds and throttling.

  • Pure Wireless Uncapped
    • 20Mbps - Subject to a monthly threshold of 100GB. Once you’ve reached your monthly data limit, your connection speed will be limited to 4Mbps for the remainder of the month.
    • 50Mbps - Subject to a monthly threshold of 150GB. Once you’ve reached your monthly data limit, your connection speed will be limited to 4Mbps for the remainder of the month.
    • 100Mbps
      • Once you reach 250GB usage, your connection speed will be limited to 20Mbps.
      • Once you reach 500GB usage, your connection speed will be limited to 10Mbps.
      • Once you reach the threshold of 1TB, your connection speed will be limited to 1Mbps for the remainder of the month.
    • Wireless Plus
      • Once you reach 250GB usage, your connection speed will be limited to 50Mbps.

What speeds can I expect?

Speeds and latency are dependent on a variety of factors such as number of devices connected and signal strength. Average speeds remain device and coverage dependent.

The MTN (Pure Wireless) network averages up to 40Mbps on 4G and 246Mbps on 5G.

The Vodacom network averages up to 35Mbps on 4G and up to 200Mbps on 5G.

The Telkom network averages up to 40Mbps on 4G.

Can I use this Wireless service anywhere?

The Wireless service is designed to be used at your home, and the SIM card will be locked to the location you provide and your Wireless services will only work at this location.

General.

Do I need to sign up for a contract?

No! At Afrihost, we don't lock you into outlandish contractual commitments. All our packages are month-to-month and can be easily cancelled if you change your mind.

What happens if I sign up in the middle of the month?

All Wireless packages are charged pro-rata. For example, if you sign up halfway through the month you will pay half the price.

How long does it take to activate after delivery?

Your SIM card should be active within 30 minutes after delivery. In extreme cases it can take up to 48 hours, but this is highly unlikely. Should you have trouble connecting after 30 minutes, please reboot your device and try to connect again. Please contact our Support team if you do not have a connection after 48 hours.

Why are only certain devices allowed to be used with Pure Wireless?

Afrihost can only allow devices which have been network approved by MTN and have identified a range of devices which specifically suit a Wireless offer, and which are sometimes offered by competitors. This range of devices includes:

  • BROVI: 5G CPE 5 H155-381, 5G H155-382, 5G H352-381
  • HUAWEI: 5G CPE PRO 2, 5G SIC-100, H155-386
  • NOKIA: FastMile 5G Gateway 3.2
  • TELTONIKA: RUTM54

Please note that Pure Wireless (MTN) will only work on the above approved devices. If you insert your SIM card into a device that has not been approved by MTN, your SIM card will be blocked and you will lose internet access. You will then have to contact Afrihost Support to get your SIM card unblocked.

SIM and APN.

Do I need to RICA my SIM card?

Yes. You will need to have your original barcoded Identity Document, as well as a valid proof of residence. Visit our RICA with Afrihost page for detailed information.

Can I use the SIM card in another device?

Your Pure Wireless (MTN) SIM card is only compatible with the device supplied with your order. For SIM Only packages, only the following approved CAT6 devices will work with your Pure Wireless (MTN) SIM card. Please note that you also need to be in the MTN Network coverage area.

Your Vodacom SIM card is only compatible with the device supplied with your order. For SIM Only packages, only the following approved CAT6 devices will work with your Vodacom Wireless SIM card. Please note that you also need to be in the Vodacom Network coverage area.

Your Telkom SIM card is only compatible with the device supplied with your order. Please note that you also need to be in the Telkom Network coverage area.

Do I need to change my APN settings?

SIM + Device orders - We will preconfigure the device that is shipped with your SIM card - so you do not need to change any APN settings.

SIM Only - If you will be using your new SIM card with your own device, please visit setup.afrihost.com for instructions on how to get connected. In some cases you’ll have to change the Access Point Name (APN) settings on your device, depending on the Wireless provider you signed up for.

Managing your package.

Can I upgrade or downgrade my package?

Yes. All Wireless packages can be upgraded or downgraded in ClientZone.

Package changes will only be effective on the 1st of the following month, regardless of when in the month the request is made or whether it is an upgrade or downgrade. This is a restriction from our providers.

IMPORTANT - Clients who sign up for a Wireless package that has a FREE promotional router will be billed R999 should they change their package in the first 6 months from sign up.

Data usage.

Is there a limit to how much data I can use on an Uncapped package?

Pure Wireless Uncapped
