Quick-start Guide | Huawei B593

 

Your Huawei B593 Smart Hub Details

You are just a few steps away from experiencing Pure Internet Joy! Below we'll guide you
through all the steps needed to get connected using your shiny new modem.

 

   Let's Get Started   

 

1. REMOVE THE MODEM FROM THE BOX
and peel off the sticker over the SIM card slot.

 

2. INSERT A STANDARD MINI SIM CARD*
and make sure the SIM card faces the right direction.

     

3. CONNECT THE POWER ADAPTER
at back of the device and plug it into a wall socket.

 

4. SWITCH ON THE MODEM
by pressing the power button on the side.

 

* WARNING: Only a Standard Mini SIM card can be used with the Broadband Smart Hub.
The use of any other sized SIM card (for example Nano or Micro) can damage the device and void the warranty.

 

Establish a Wi‑Fi Connection

Your Wireless Network Name and Password can be found on the back of your
Broadband Smart Hub and may be referred to as 'SSID' and 'WIFI KEY'

 

MICROSOFT WINDOWS

1.

Select Start > Control Panel > Network Connections > Wireless Network Connection.

2.

Click 'View available wireless networks' to display a list of wireless networks available.

3.

Select the network you want to connect to.

4.

Enter the Wi‑Fi Password and click Connect.

 

APPLE MAC

1.

Click the Wi‑Fi icon in your menu bar to open a list of available wireless networks.

2.

Select the network you want to connect to from the dropdown menu.

3.

Enter the Wi‑Fi Password.

4.

The Wi‑Fi icon will change to black lines.

 

ANDROID

1.

Open the Settings app.

2.

Select Wi‑Fi.

3.

Select the network you want to connect to.

4.

Enter the Wi‑Fi Password.

5.

Touch the Connect button.

 

APPLE iOS

1.

Click on the Settings icon.

2.

Select Wi‑Fi.

3.

Make sure your Wi‑Fi is turned on.

4.

Select the network you want to connect to.

5.

Enter the Wi‑Fi Password.

 

Alternatively Connect via Ethernet

You can also easily connect your Broadband Smart Hub straight via ethernet. Make sure that
your DHCP settings are set to 'auto' in order to get the IP address from the Modem.

 

   Check APN Settings   

The APN Settings of your device needs to be updated in order to connect to the
afrihost Network. Follow the steps below to update your APN settings. This set‑up
only needs to be done once when inserting a new Standard Mini SIM card.

 

OPEN THE ONLINE DASHBOARD

Your Broadband Smart Hub has an online dashboard you can use to check the signal strength of your device and change your APN settings. Your Smart Hub needs to be connected to your computer or mobile device via Wi‑Fi to access the dashboard. The dashboard is free to access and will not use up any of your data.

  1. Connect the Broadband Smart Hub to your computer or mobile device.
  2. Open up your preferred internet browser on your computer or mobile device.
  3. Enter http://192.168.8.1/ in the navigation bar of your browser and hit go.
    Remember: you can bookmark the above URL to easily access your dashboard.
  4. Enter the username and password to log into your dashboard:
    Username: admin | Password: admin
    You can change your username/password by going to Settings > System > Modify Password
 

UPDATE APN SETTINGS

1.

Settings > Internet > APN Management.

2.

Under APN Profile, click on the Add button
– Enter afrihost as the Profile Name.
– Enter afrihost into the APN field.
– Leave the Username field empty.
– Leave the Password empty.
– Set Authentication to None.

3.

Click Submit.

 

NETWORK CONNECTION

1.

Go to Settings > Internet > Network Connection.

2.

Under Connection, change the following:
– Network mode: Auto
– Connection Mode: Always on
– Profile: Afrihost
– PDP type: IPv4
– Disable Data Roaming

3.

Click Submit.

 

IMPORTANT: Ensure all letters are lowercase and there are NO spaces before or after ‘afrihost‘.

You can check if your Broadband Smart Hub is on the Afrihost Network by going to support.afrihost.com/ip using your computer or mobile device's internet browser. If the page does not give you a Success message, please double check your device setup using the instructions set out above.

 

   Connect to the Internet   

 

SWITCH ON THE MODEM
and make sure that the Wi‑Fi indicator is blue.

 

CONNECT YOUR DEVICE
or computer via Wi‑Fi as per instructions in Step 2.

 

OPEN YOUR BROWSER
and start browsing to your heart's content!
