At Afrihost we’re dedicated to doing everything we can to make this country a better place to live in. Even if it means shedding a little blood - literally!
On 14 June 2012, blood transfusion services worldwide will celebrate World Blood Donor Day. This year’s theme “Every Blood Donor is a Hero” is also celebrated by the South African National Blood Service for National Blood Donor Month in June.
Our team recently participated in a Blood Drive, with the help of the dedicated peeps from SANBS. Although we had some veteran donors in our ranks, quite a few of the team were giving blood for the first time. After converting our team recreation room into a temporary Blood Donor Station, the SANBS folks set about extracting what they needed – our blood!!
Although most of us were a few pounds lighter, there was an amazing feeling amongst the team of having contributed to a very worthy cause. Thank you SANBS for helping us make a difference!

What a great team initiative! I took my son down to donate his 8th yesterday at Fourways SANBS! I have donated more than 35 times (but currently not allowed due to anaemia). I also found out that the Fourways centre is closing its doors at the end of the month as Game will be taking over all the shops to make a huge supermarket type store. It will be very sad if they can’t find new premises in the area as it is a long way to go to the nearest donor centre - and it will discourage regular donors in the Fourways Area ( there are approx 400 donations a month)!
